Lindsay & Michael’s Maternity Photo’s

My friend Lindsay and her boyfriend Michael are expecting their first born any week now. I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph them together in Big Hill Springs Provincial Park a few weeks ago. I was a bit sidetracked with Natasha and Tracey’s wedding so I hadn’t had the opportunity to post these photos yet. I met Lindsay and Michael about 7-8 years ago when I was working at Golder Associates as a Civil Designer. These two are absolutely hilarious together! I’m rooting for a girl, but I guess we will find out in a few weeks as its it’ll be a surprise for all of us!

Japan – Nagano, Matsumoto, and Nagoya

The next stops on my Japan trip were Nagano (for one night), Matsumoto Castle, and Nagoya. I stayed in Nagano for the evening after visiting the Jigokudani Monkey Park. I stayed in a very swanky hotel right at the Nagano train station. I had quite a bit of work to do that evening and I wanted to be close to the train station for the next day. I did a time-lapse video of the sunset and was pretty impressed how it turned out.

The next day I boarded a train towards Nagoya but made a stop in Matsumoto. Matsumoto is one of Japan’s top four castles to visit, and during this trip I visited all four! Masumoto is unique because it’s a black castle, also known as the “crow castle”. The amount of engineering detail that went into the castle is breathtaking. They accounted for everything that you could possibly conceive, even earthquakes. Not bad for late 1500’s engineering! The castle still stands to this day, surviving multiple earthquakes, and World War 2. Over the years the castle was ruled by the 23 lords of Matsumoto representing six different daimyō families.

After soaking up this magnificent castle I continued on my journey to Nagoya. My two favorite things about Nagoya was the Toyota Museum, and the MAGLEV museum. I actually learned that Toyota is one of the largest manufacturer’s of the automatic loom; apparently they started out as a textile machine company. Nagoya impressed me in some aspects, but disappointed me in other aspects. I was disappointed about the dirtiness of the city, and overall grungy feel to the city. It felt like the Las Vegas of Japan in a way.

The next stop in my trip was Kyoto, one of my favorite stops of the entire trip. Stay tuned!

Canadian Classic Tour – Grizzly Bears

A while back I had the amazing opportunity to go on a trip of a lifetime with my mom to Khutzeymateen, British Columbia. The tour is operated by Classic Canadian Tours (http://www.classiccanadiantours.com/). The tour involves taking a private chartered Boeing 737-300 on Canadian North to Prince Rupert where we boarded a beautiful 72 person catamaran and cruised up the inside passage into the Khutzeymateen grizzly sanctuary. Renowned Canadian Brian Keating was on the trip as one of the tour guides. We saw 28 grizzlies on this day, a new record according to Brian. We also saw some whales, and many different species of brids. The day was long, having woke up at 4am and returning at around 7pm, but was so worth it. Here’s a glimpse of some of my favorite photos.

Larch Valley Hike

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to go on a beautiful hike near Moraine Lake with my friend Sara. The hike is called Larch Valley. The drive from Calgary was about 1.75 Hours to the overflow parking lot near lake louse. We had to wait there for about an hour to catch a Government of Canada chartered bus up to Morraine Lake. The hike is about a 2 hour journey to the valley up a bunch of steep switchbacks, but the view is definitely worth it. Going down took a mere 45 minutes. This is one of my favorite hikes that I have ever done.

2017-08-19 Edmonton Air Show

Yesterday I travelled up to Edmonton with my friend Hadrian to visit the 3rd annual Edmonton Air Show. There were some amazing airplanes and pilots there, including a 75 year old stunt pilot (Gary Ward), De Havilland DH-115 Vampire, and the snowbirds presented the finale. Enjoy the photos below.

Quebec & Montreal

The week after returning from my Boston & New York trip I had the opportunity to go on a trip to Quebec & Montreal for my birthday. Work was a bit slow still and I approached my boss and asked if I could go away for another week, and he said go for it. I found a steal of a deal for $700 for flights to/from YYC to YUL (Air Canada), hotels in both Quebec and Montreal, and Via rail to/from Quebec/Montreal. Not bad for easter weekend!

I was blown away by the sheer beauty of Quebec and Montreal. I’ve been wanting to go here for years but hadn’t got around to it.

In Montreal I met up with my friend Myriam, who I had met earlier this year on my trip to Hawaii. We had some of the most amazing poutine I’ve ever had in my life! I even met some new friends while at a brewery in Montreal, who I still maintain contact with. One of them even lives here in Calgary.

Take a look at my pictures below and see the amazing beauty of both these amazing cities.

New York & Boston Part 2 of 2

After visiting New York I took a Delta flight on a Maddog (MD-88) over to Boston. Boston is a beautiful colonial city with a ton of amazing architecture and history. It’s also one of the most educated cities in the United States. Some of my favorite photos’ are shown below. After Boston I had some troubles catching my flight back to New York (La Guardia), due to weather, so I could catch my flight from JFK to Calgary, but Delta was able to re-accommodate me to fly directly into JFK, which was a huge life saver. Thank you Delta!
